The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday, declared Wednesday, July 19, 2023, a public holiday in the state, to mark first day of Muharram 1445 AH.
Makinde, in a circular signed by his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, declared the day a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Hijrah 1445.
The statement, which was made available to newsmen by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, congratulated the Muslim faithful on the commencement of the New Year, while enjoining them to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and sustainability in the state in particular and the country in general.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government also declared work-free to mark the beginning of the 1445 Islamic (Hijrah) New Year.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The governor, while congratulating Muslims globally on the new Islamic year, charged civil servants and other people in Kano to pray for peace and tranquillity as well as the economic development of the state and Nigeria at large.
Yusuf also called on the people to live their lives based on the teachings of Islam.
Hijrah 1445: Jigawa govt declares Wednesday as public holiday
In a related development, the Jigawa State Government also declared Wednesday, July 19, 2023, as a work-free day to mark the Islamic New Year, 1445 after Hijrah.
The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila.
According to the statement: “The period of the Islamic New Year should remind all people of the countless favours bestowed on them by the Almighty God.
“People should use the period to reflect and live their lives based on the teachings of Islam and the practice of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“During the occasion, it is expected that all public servants and the entire people of the State will also pray to Almighty Allah for continued protection and guidance of our leaders.”
