Some Nigerians have started criticising Astha Rajvanshi, a reporter of the America’s news magazine, Times over her writing on the Nigeria’s president elect Senator Bola Tinubu.
The Informant247 recalls that the magazine ranked Tinubu as one of the 100 most influential persons in the world in 2023.
It described the president elect as a longtime political icon who assisted his country to bring back democracy in 1999 following a strong fight against military rule.
Tinubu made the list of 19 leaders on the TIME list alongside the president of United States, Joe Biden.
Some Nigerians, especially the supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP otherwise known as Obidients have started calling out the foreign reporter over her contribution to the report.
While describing Tinubu, the reporter stated that: “Winning an election in Africa’s most populous country is no easy feat. But Nigeria’s newly elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has had nearly two decades to prepare. Called Jagaban, or “leader of the warriors,” by his supporters, the now 71-year-old ran in a presidential election for the first time this March. His campaign slogan, “It’s my turn,” was a nod to his role as a longtime political power broker. Tinubu helped restore the country’s democracy in 1999 after fighting military rule and then served two consecutive terms as governor of Lagos.
“But Tinubu’s win with the ruling All Progressives Congress Party came in a fraught election and by a slim margin over Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. It was the first time Nigerian voters contended with a third-party candidate, and many discontented young Nigerians yearning for change pinned their hopes on Obi. Marred by allegations of intimidation and vote rigging, the outcome of the ballot is being challenged in court.
The Informant247 recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 1 announced Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
According to INEC, Tinubu came victorious with 8.8 million votes.
The presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar came second with 6.9 million votes, while Peter Obi, had 6.1 million votes.
