The Federal Government, on Thursday, said it might not be left with another option than to lockdown the country for the second time if the surge in COVID-19 pandemic cases increases.
Dr. Sani Aliyu, the National coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 made this known in Abuja during a Press Briefing.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had earlier said the Federal government had no plan of imposing another lock down as the country battles the second wave of COVID-19.
While addressing the press, the coordinator of PTF said the rising cases call for worry and concern and might require a fresh lockdown to curb the spread.
Also, the PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who spoke earlier, said “the Presidential Task Force is very concerned about the increasing daily numbers that we are recording”.
“On 6th of January 2021, we recorded 1,664 infections. This is yet another all-time high in Nigerian and we must all take full responsibility through compliance and vigilance.”
The Federal Government had earlier in March 2020 lockdown Lagos, Ogun and Federal Capital Territory as measures to curb the spread of the virus during the first wave of the pandemic.
