Tennis legend, Roger Federer, declares retirement
Swiss tennis great, Roger Federer, has declared his intention to retire after next week’s Laver Cup.
“The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event,” he said in a statement posted on his Twitter account.
The tennis guru has been out of action since a quarter-final loss at Wimbledon in 2021.
This was after which the 41-year-old winner of 20 Grand Slam titles, did his third knee surgery in 18 months.
The Informant247 recalls that his fellow tennis guru, Serena Williams has confirmed her intention not to play again after taking a bow out of the US Open in the third round this month.
The Swiss tennis player has revealed that his body had strategically told him it was time to leave the podium.
“I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form,” he wrote.
“But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.
“I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years.
“Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.”
