Taraba: Police officers killed at INEC collation centre
2 police officers lost their lives while 2 other persons got injured in a clash between soldiers and police officers in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state on Monday, March 20.
Those who witnessed the scenario said a minor misunderstanding between the members of the armed forces, who were securing the headquarters of INEC in the state, resulted in the crisis which lasted for nearly one hour.
Sources revealed that soldiers who chased police officers away from the INEC collation centre later stormed the police headquarters to send police officers on duty away.
A source revealed that the police officers who sustained injury have been hospitalized at Federal Medical Center, Jalingo.
The invaders reportedly vandalized the vehicles inside the headquarters of the police during the invasion.
Shops, houses and markets were shut as sporadic gunshots triggered fear among those residing in the affected area.
The commissioner of police in the state, Suleiman Amodu, during a joint press conference, said an investigative committee would be put in place to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
