Some police officers have been disarmed by suspected gunmen in Ebonyi state.

The suspected gunmen also took the life of a chinese expatriate at a mining site in Iboko, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

The spokesperson of the police command in Ebonyi state, SP Chris Anyanwu, told the newsmen on telephone in Abakaliki, the capital of the state, on Sunday that the traffic incident was yet to be confirmed by the police command.

“It has not been confirmed, but believe me, I will confirm that tomorrow,” Anyanwu said.

The Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, Mr Steve Emenike, referred to the killing as ’embarrassment”.

The chairman explained that the suspected gunmen came on motorbikes.

Emenike revealed that the council had reinstituted strong Vigilante Group and have placed a ban on operation of motorbikes between 7 p.m, and 6 a.m. in the affected area.

“We are working hard to find the causes of the matter and we’re working with security agencies, including the Police and DSS to investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We can no longer accept or tolerate this spare of insecurity. Our people are peaceful and we cannot allow evil to germinate.

Some eyewitnesses, who spoke as anonymous, said the suspected gunmen disarmed the policemen, who were securing the Chinese during the incident.

“The corpse of the victim has been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki,” he added.
