Suspected armed bandits sell rustled cattle in Zamfara, government closes 5 market

In response to escalating insecurity due to the illegal trade of rustled cattle, the Zamfara State Government has initiated immediate measures to combat these activities within the region.

The Commissioner of Information and Culture, Mannir Mu’azu Haidara, issued a statement on Sunday, announcing the temporary closure of select cattle markets (Kara) in five local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

The affected cattle markets include Danjibga and Kunchin Kalgo in Tsafe LGA, Bagega and Wuya cattle market in Anka LGA, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru LGA, Dauran in Zurmi LGA, and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim LGA.

These closures were prompted by the illicit activities of suspected armed bandits involved in the sale and transportation of rustled cattle.

The decision to temporarily suspend operations at these cattle markets was reached during a meeting of the State Security Council held last Thursday.

The council urged security agencies and the Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development to rigorously enforce these measures.

Furthermore, the council pledged its unwavering commitment to closely monitor and assess the situation, with the ultimate goal of putting an end to the illegal cattle trade and restoring peace and security in the affected cattle market areas.
