Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified its campaign to enhance urban aesthetics and create safer spaces by demolishing the notorious “Kasuwan Dare” market located near Kpaduma II on Hassan Musa Katsina Street in Asokoro Extension, Abuja.
The market had gained notoriety for harboring suspected hoodlums and drug dealers, posing a significant threat to both local residents and the general public.
Despite previous attempts to address the issue, the area remained a hotspot for illicit activities, necessitating immediate action from the FCTA.
Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, highlighted the urgent need for the demolition, explaining that the presence of criminal elements had compromised the safety and aesthetic quality of the area.
Despite repeated interventions, miscreants continued to operate within the vicinity, undermining the peaceful coexistence of the community.
Galadima asserted, “The operation was carried out to eradicate the menace of hoodlums and drug dealers that had taken over the area. Despite previous demolitions, they persistently resumed their activities.”
He furthered that the FCTA’s decisive action to address this issue aligns with its larger goal of creating secure and visually appealing urban environments.
He said that this ongoing initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to providing residents with safe and serene surroundings.
This recent development follows the recent demolition of a multimillion-naira duplex situated at Plot 226 Cadastral Zone, A02 Wuse 1, Wuse Zone 6 District.
Addressing newsmen, Galadima started that the FCTA’s efforts in this regard are driven by the violation of development rules and regulations, as well as the need to ensure that structures are built on approved plots of land.
These actions are part of the broader strategy championed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, aimed at transforming Abuja into a city that is free from criminal activities and characterized by its harmonious and secure urban spaces.
