Supreme Court rules out suit seeking zoning of presidential ticket to South-East

The Supreme Court has struck out a law suit which was instituted against the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to ensure the effect of the party’s zoning and rotatory policy ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The Court on Friday, unanimously, through Justice Adamu Jauro, struck out the law suit on the ground that it lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, a Presidential aspirant of the PDP has initiated the law suit against his party.

Ndukwe had the hope that the court would compel the party to subscribe to the zoning and rotatory policy of the party.

The Presidential aspirant has sought for order of the court to mandate the PDP to zone the presidential ticket of the party to the South Eastern geo-political zone of the country.

Justice Jauro however held that the law suit was not justiciable using the fact that the issue was an internal affairs of political parties.
