Gov. Wike praises Nigerians for supporting power shift to South

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Friday, March 3, 2023 thanked the people of Nigeria for supporting the zoning of power to the Southern zone of Nigeria.

The Governor of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP said the emergence of the President-Elect, Senator Bola Tinubu has settled the issue of rotational presidency for good.

The Informant247 understands that Tinubu is from Lagos State, South West, Nigeria.

The Governor made this revelation on Friday, March 3, when he joined the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde to commission the Oyo State 5,000,000-litre Aviation Fuel Dispensing Depot at the Ibadan Airport in the Alakia area of the state.

Before the February 25 presidential election, Governor Wike revealed his intent not to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar; unless the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns his appointment.

Wike said he was excited that Makinde was one of the advocates of the rotational presidency to the south following the 8 year administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Informant247 understands that Buhari is from Katsina State, North West, Nigeria.

Governor Wike said, “I am happy he (Makinde) is one of those that made history by making sure that power shift to the south.

“I have told people that those who fight for change, who fight for revolution may not be directed beneficiaries of that fight but today, history has it that all of us now are aware that when power finishes from the south, it will go to the north; when it finishes from the north, it will come to the south.

“So, it does not need to be written in the constitution at all before it is implemented. And I thank Nigerians for standing firm to see that this issue materialise.”

Recall that Wike and Makinde are members of the G5’ — a group of 5 aggrieved governors of the PDP.

Before the February 25 presidential election, the G5 Governors said the resignation of Ayu was a precondition to support Atiku’s presidency.

The G5 PDP governors were:

Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia),

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu),

Samuel Ortom (Benue),

Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and

Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
