Supreme Court ignores Shekarau, affirms Hanga as NNPP senatorial candidate for Kano Central

The Supreme Court has acknowledged the nomination of Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the authentic candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the just concluded National Assembly election of February 25.

The apex court said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was supposed to replace Senator Ibrahim Shekarau with Hanga as soon as Shekarau left the party for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP before the election.

The court corroborated the 2 earlier concurrent verdicts pronounced by the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, both in Abuja, which affirmed that Hanga was the authentic candidate of NNPP for the election.

The Informant247 earlier reported that the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has been announced the winner of the 2023 Kano Central Senatorial District election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The incumbent Senator for the Kano Central was nominated on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to contest for the senatorial position.

He announced his defection before the election from the NNPP and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Darma revealed that Shekarau gathered 456,787 votes to conquer the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulkarim Zaura, who secured 168,677 votes.
