Super Eagles edge Sierra Leone, qualify for AFCON 2023 in Cote d’ivoire

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the 2023 African Cup of Nations billed to take place in Cote’d’voire after defeating Seirra Leone 3-2 in the matchday 5 of the qualifiers.

Victor Osimhen chipped home the opener from Kenneth Omeruo’s delightful pass and later poked home the second after Chukwueze’s cross evaded Sierra Leonean defenders.

However, the three time AFCON winners were put to a test when Mustapha Bundu put one back before halftime Augustus Kargbo long range shot drew Sierra Leone level.

It will take a last minute effort from Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho who fired home the winner in last second of the match to earn the Coach Peseiro’s led team the victory.

The 3-2 win means both Nigeria and Guinea Bissau have taken the two tickets from Group A of the qualifying series.

Nigeria with 12 points are back on top of the log and the table will be saved further changes if they secure another win against Sao Tome & Principe who are rock bottom in the league
