The House of Representatives has invited the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri, and operatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deliberate on the issues surrounding the evacuation of stranded Nigerians from Sudan.
The Speaker of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Femi Gbajabiamila made this known during a legislative session on Tuesday May 2nd.
The speaker blamed interagency rivalry for the challenge encountered so far stating that: “The House is aware of ongoing difficulties with the evacuation efforts and the federal government’s response to the developments in the Republic of Sudan. We are also mindful that some of these difficulties flow from interagency disagreements arising from overlapping mandates and the absence of established operational guidelines for such circumstances.”
The Chairman House Committee on Foreign Affairs Yusuf Buba was directed by the Speaker of the House to issue the notes of invitations to the concerned.
The Speaker instructed House Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Yusuf Buba to issue the invitation.
The Informant247 earlier reported that the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has revealed that the Egyptian border has finally been opened for stranded Nigerian students to be evacuated from Sudan.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the development came following a dialogue between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
A source revealed that: “The plane landed a few hours ago at Aswan. The first set of evacuees will depart today.”
Dabiri-Erewa said the Egyptian authority had opened the border with certain conditions.
The commission did not make open details of the required conditions.
“The border has just been opened, ( with stringent conditions ) after President Buhari’s intervention with the Egyptian President. So, the processing of evacuees by the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt will begin,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
The Informant247 earlier reported that the Nigerian government had vowed to evacuate its stranded citizens from the war torn zone.
