Seven teenagers in court for allegedly stealing generator sets

Seven teenagers were charged in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly stealing two generators valued N445,000.

The lads, ages 14, 17, 12, 14, 13, 15, and 15, were charged with conspiracy and stealing.

They entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

ASP Bisi Ogunleye, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the accused committed the crime on January 21 at the Bogije area of Ajah, Lagos State.

He said the accused stole two generators worth N455,000 from Mr lsreal Adejoh and Mr Binley Iwulie.

The accused offences are in violation of Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), theft is punishable by three years in prison under Section 287 and two years under Section 411.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 apiece, with two sureties in the same amount.

According to Kubeinje, the sureties must be gainfully employed and provide proof of two years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate set a new hearing date on March 16 in the case.
