Security guard in court over stealing of household items, electronics worth N1.7m

A security guard, Chibuzor Okerie, on Friday appeared in court over alleged stealing of electronics valued at N1.7million.

The 39-year-old security guard was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of electronics valued at N1.7million.

Okerie was charged by the police with theft.

Insp Caleb Leramo, the prosecution counsel informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence between November 5 and November 6 at mid-night at Ajilosun Street in Ado-Ekiti.

Leramo made an allegation that the defendant, dispossessed his employer, Mr Sheu Sikiru, household items and electronics valued at N1.7 million.

He said that the offence was in violation of the provisions of Section 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

He has also persuaded the court to adjourn the sitting to make him study the file and gather his witnesses.

When the matter was read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Ekene Mbam, who’s the Defence Counsel, implored the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.

Mr Saka Afunso, who’s the Chief Magistrate, admitted the defendant to the sum of N100,000 bail plus one surety in like sum.

He has adjourned the matter until December 15 for hearing.
