Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed his resolution to abrogate payments of pension and other obtainable emoluments to former governors of the state and their deputies.
The Governor made this announcement on Tuesday, during the presentation of the 2021 budget to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Sanwo-Olu noted that his administration has submitted a bill to the assembly to review the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007).
Jubril Gawat, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New media, also corroborated the claim through his official Twitter account.
He wrote: “Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu has announced his intention, through executive bill, to repeal the public office holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension & other entitlements to former governors and their deputies.”
The Informant 247 reports that if the bill is eventually passed into law by the State House of Assembly, former Governor of the state, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others will be subjected to it.
