Alhaji Razaq Jiddah, the Chairman of the environmental taskforce committee constituted by the Kwara state government to see to the clearing of illegal dump sites within the state capital has said that the government of Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would transform waste into wealth, this he said at the monthly environmental sanitation exercise that held today across the state capital and other parts of the state.
He said the taskforce committee which he chairs has made progress, many Illegal dump sites in the state have been cleared, including the one at Ita Alamu where it was rumoured that Cholera broke out, and also at Ajikobi where the governor was two (2) days ago, he also added that the state government would transform waste into wealth through recycling.
The Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Said Ola Haliru who was also at the exercise said that cleaning of the environment can’t be left to the government alone. He added that prevention is better than cure, and that when efforts are made on preventive measures, the government would spend less on curative measures. He opined that education and sensitization is the lasting solution against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and dirt.
The House leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Magaji Olawoyin who was also present at the exercise his team said that the House of Assembly has raised different motions that it is prohibited to dump refuse on the streets, and has set penalties. He also added that there is also a mobile court to prosecute offenders.
