Sanitation: 200 environmental offenders arrested in Kwara

The Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has again warned residents of the state to always abide by environmental laws by ensuring a clean and healthy environment that is habitable to all and as well attract investors for the overall development of the state.

This was despite public awareness of the monthly Sanitation exercise; about 200 environmental offenders were apprehended and charged to various mobile courts during the exercise held across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, the state Commissioner for Environment, said this in Ilorin over the weekend while interacting with the press during the monthly sanitation exercise across the entire state.

Hajia Buge, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Abubakar Ayinla, expressed her satisfaction at the level of compliance among the residents of the state while commending security agencies and various voluntary organisations for their tireless support in ensuring a smooth sanitation exercise.

She said, “With what we observed today in the metropolis and the reports received from Local Government Areas of the state, the level of compliance has drastically improved. More efforts, therefore, need to be put in place to ensure sustainability to promote a hygienic environment to prevent epidemics in society.”

Hajia Buge, however, expressed displeasure about some commercial motor parks violating the sanitation law, warning them to desist henceforth from such actions, capable of sabotaging the environmental law, with an appeal that Kwarans should adhere strictly to sanitation laws of the state for the benefit of all, while warning that the ministry will no longer tolerate anyone, especially commercial transporters, who often defy environmental laws, during the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.
