Sanction HM that assaulted teacher, Group tells SUBEB

A Pro-democracy group in Kwara state, Kwara Must Change has called on the leadership of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to sanction Headmistress of Magaji Aare LGEA School, Idi Ape, Alhaja Ibrahim Titilayo Olomu who assaulted Mrs Ahmed Rukayat, a primary 2 teacher in the school.

The group also called on SUBEB to caution all heads of schools in the state, to desist from abusive conduct and high handedness.

In a statement by Kwara Must Change state coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Olatunji, the group explained that the teacher assaulted by Alhaja Olomu is a member of the group and it is ready to protect her rights against her abuser.

Recall that the head mistress of Magaji Aare, LGEA primary school at Idi-ape area in ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, Alhaja Ibrahim Titilayo Olomu, was reported to have allegedly assaulted a teacher of the school publicly on Tuesday, 25th June, 2019 at exactly 10:50am.

According to the KMC; The head mistress, who is notorious for her degrading treatment to teachers and her usual violation of human dignity publicly slapped a level 8 teacher, Mrs Ahmed Rukayat, who teaches primary two in the school.

According to Comrade Yusuf, even though the victim is not willing to press charges against her abuser, the group demand that the culprit be sanctioned by the authorities to serve as deterrent and offer apology.

Comrade Yusuf explained that, several teachers have reported different abusive conducts by the culprit and Kwara Must Change believes that until proper sanctions are applied, the abuser might never desist from such conduct.

The group also maintained that, abusive conduct by HM in the state government schools is not exclusive to Alhaja Olomu, as several HM’s have been reported to used to abusing teachers at will, a development the group said is abhorable.

Kwara Must Change therefore call on the leadership of subeb to look into the matter with a view of cleansing government schools off abusive conducts by HM’s.
