Reno Omokri asks FG to arrest Peter Obi over treasonable comment
A social commentator Reno Omokri has called on the federal government to go after the presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP Peter Obi, if he (Obi) utters treasonable statement.
Omokri who’s an active campaigner for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar made this revelation in a tweet released on Wednesday April 5.
This came as a reaction to the comment made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday April 4.
The federal government has sent message of warning to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, to stop inciting Nigerians to violence over the results of the February 25 presidential elections.
The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this revelation in Washington DC while meeting with some international media organizations and Think-tanks on the elections.
The minister said it’s wrong for Obi to take the election issue to court and at the same time incite people to violence.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has confronted the popular Nigerian media organization, Channels Television with a fine of N5 million over a recent interview with the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The Informant247 recalls that the vice presidential candidate while granting an interview on the Channels Television last week called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola, not to inaugurate Senator Bola Tinubu as the next president.
Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria does not have any president elect, affirming that Tinubu did not meet up with the requirements of the law.
“Obi and his Vice, Datti Ahmed cannot be threatening Nigerians that if the President-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is sworn in on May 29, it will be the end of democracy in Nigeria. This is treason. You cannot be inviting insurrection, and this is what they are doing.
“Obi’s statement is that of a desperate person, he is not the democrat that he claimed to be. A democrat should not believe in democracy only when he wins the election,” he said.
Reacting to the development, Omokri in a tweet said: “The next time either Peter Obi or Datti Baba Ahmed open their mouths to make treasonous comments, the Federal Government should arrest them. Nothing will happen. What happened when FG arrested Nnamdi Kanu? Did heaven fall? Arrest the wimpy simps if they blab anyhow!”
Reacting Obi took to Twitter on Tuesday April 4 to dismiss the claim the allegations levelled against him by the information minister.
Obi wrote: “In the past few days, I have observed various campaigns of calumny directed at my person, with the latest being allegations attributed to the information Minister, Lai Mohammed from Washington DC.”
“It is most unfortunate that these consistent efforts to portray me quite contrary to what I am, and my core values, is coming from such high quarters. Minister Lai accusing me of stoking insurrection is totally malicious and fictitious.”
“I have never discussed or encouraged anyone to undermine the Nigerian state; I have never sponsored or preached any action against the Nigerian state.”
“I am on record as always, advocating for peace and issue-based campaign and never campaigned based on ethnicity or religion. I am committed to due process, and presently seeking redress in the Court,” he said.
