The presidential election tribunal has scheduled Monday May 8th 2023 to look into the petitions submitted against the victory of the president elect Senator Bola Tinubu.
The legal team of the former Governor of Lagos State described the Monday’s tribunal appearance as a pre-hearing session.
The substantive matters would be heard after the pre-hearing court session.
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had earlier pronounced the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC as the winner of the February 25 presidential election with 8,794,726 votes.
The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar gathered 6,984,520 votes while the presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP Peter Obi had 6,101,533 votes.
Atiku and Obi had challenged the victory of Tinubu in court in separate petitions.
They both maintained that the former Governor of Lagos State was not qualified to be in the presidential race.
They also raised concern over Tinubu’s failure to gather majority of votes in the presidential election as required by the constitution.
They also maintained that the vice president elect Senator Kashim Shettima secured double nomination which is against the electoral act.
