President Tinubu postpones FEC meeting to honour late army chief Lagbaja

President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, originally planned for today, Wednesday, 6 November.

The new date will be announced later.

The meeting was postponed to honour Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who sadly passed away on Tuesday night.

This was shared on the official X handle of Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria @NGRPresident.

A similar press release by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, obtained by The Informant247 on Wednesday confirmed the delay of the FEC meeting.

Lt. General Lagbaja, whose passing was previously confirmed by the Presidency, served as the 27th Chief of Army Staff.

He took up the role on June 19, 2023, and served until his death on November 5, 2024.

In respect for General Lagbaja, President Tinubu has also ordered flags across the nation to be flown at half-staff for seven days.

The President expressed deep sympathy to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He wished the late General peace and paid tribute to his notable contributions to the nation.

General Lagbaja’s military career began at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987. He graduated as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992, as part of the 39th Regular Course.

He held key roles throughout his career, including as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.

General Lagbaja was instrumental in numerous internal security missions, such as Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity in Kaduna and Niger States.
