Portable breaks silence, vows to honour EFCC invitation

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has pledged to honour the invitation extended to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of naira abuse.

The singer made the commitment in a video posted on his Instagram page, insisting that he was not evading the anti-graft agency and would appear before it in September.

According to Portable, he has already consulted his lawyer regarding the matter and plans to respond through legal channels before appearing in person.

“EFCC, I am not running away from you. I am at home with my family. By September, we will honour the invitation,” he said.

The singer expressed dissatisfaction with the invitation, arguing that he had committed no offence beyond actions allegedly linked to his child’s naming ceremony. He maintained that he was neither involved in fraud nor any form of financial crime.

Portable also appealed to President Bola Tinubu for intervention, claiming that the commission was unfairly targeting him despite his support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The singer further questioned what he described as selective enforcement of laws against naira abuse, alleging that other public figures had engaged in similar acts without attracting the attention of authorities.

Known for his outspoken personality and frequent social media controversies, Portable rose to fame in 2021 with his hit single Zazzu Zeh, featuring Poco Lee and Olamide.

His latest brush with the EFCC comes amid a nationwide crackdown on naira abuse, which has seen several celebrities and prominent Nigerians investigated and prosecuted for violating currency regulations.

This is not Portable’s first encounter with law enforcement agencies. In recent years, the singer has faced multiple legal controversies, including arrest, arraignment and police investigations over various allegations.
