A grassroot politician, Otunba Adetunji Oyabambi has empowered women with small scale business which cash to support their businesses in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Oyabambi presented the money to the Chairperson Orisunbare market in Ijagbo, Chief Mrs Olaide Olaore (Yeye-Oge) on behalf of the beneficiaries whose names were shortlisted for the empowerment.
Speaking at the event, he said that the current state of the country’s economy fasten the empowerment program.
He said, “The current world food crisis is having a severe impact on women. Around the world millions of people eat two or three times a day but a significant per cent eat only once and now many women are denying themselves even that one meal to ensure that their children are fed.
“I have repeatedly reiterated the importance of women in our politics. They constitute the highest voting population and deserve adequate reward for this active participation in politics. While this due recognition is not to reduce the stake of men, it is to acknowledge women’s strategic place with corresponding dividend. One way we resolved to extend this divided is to commit funds to their businesses.”
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chieftain reaffirmed his continued support for the traders in helping their business thrive.
“We carefully selected the beneficiaries from the eleven Wards in the Constituency, and were given similar share. You know it has been our attitude to pursue our promises to fulfilment, just like we have done with others we made. The token of love is offered to support their businesses, in the hope that more will follow in the coming months,” Oyabambi stated.
One of the beneficiaries, commended Oyabambi for his kindness, calling on others to emulate him in order to reduce poverty in the state.
Oyun PDP Chairman, Hon. Mustapha Kabir commended Hon Otunba Oyabambi for making them proud.
According to him, “Oyabambi is such a wonderful being and sincere politician. We are very proud and happy for you, with the empowerment across 11 Wards.”
