A 30-year-old man, Monsuru Abubakar, on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Court for allegedly possessing stolen handsets.
The defendant whose address of residence was not fixed, is currently tried on a charge of possession of stolen hand phones.
Insp Caleb Leramo, who’s the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence on October 17 at about 4:00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo made an allegation that the defendant was possessing three Infinix handsets, one Samsung phone, one iPhone handset, and two techno handsets that were suspected to have been stolen.
He added that the offence was in contravention of the Section 345 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor persuaded the court to adjourn the court sitting to make him study the case file and gather his witnesses.
When the matter was read to the defendant, he however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defendant’s counsel, Mrs Aduni Olanipekun, implored the court to admit her client to a bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
Mr Saka Afunso, who’s the Chief Magistrate, admitted the defendant to a bail in the sum of N50,000 plus one surety in like sum.
He added that the surety should be a member of the hausa community in Ekiti State.
He has adjourned the matter till November 22 for mention.
