Police deny armed robbery operation at Kwara community, warn public against false information

The Kwara State Police Command has cleared the air on a purported armed robbery incident at the Oke-Onigbin area of Isin Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police operatives attached to Acpol Omu-Aran and Oke-Onigbin division who were deployed to the scene of the incident, upon receiving a distress call from one Ibrahim Sai of Eleyin village, reporting an alleged armed robbery on February 09, 2025, discovered that an incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between a vehicle owner and some youths demanding for “owo ilè” (land money) after the vehicle broke down by the roadside.

The statement said, “This fracas was mistaken for an armed robbery by other road users and bystanders.
On sighting police operatives, the unarmed youths fled the scene. No robbery occurred, and the area remains very calm.”

However, the Ejire-Adeyemi,  while condemning the false report in circulation, said the action was allegedly done by mischief makers to ridicule and undermine the efforts of the command in combating crime and criminal elements.

Ejire-Adeyemi, while urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, assured of the Police Command’s efforts to secure the lives and properties of the state’s residents.
