Police confirm killing of graduate, commercial motorcyclist in Osun

The police in Osun have verified the killing of one Hassan Adedeji, a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State, and a commercial motorcyclist, by a suspected cultist.

SP Yemisi Opalola, the state police spokeswoman, confirmed the deaths on Thursday in Osogbo, saying the duo was shot dead near to the institution’s entrance.

According to Opalola, the killer, Rasheed Okoolu, is a prominent cultist, as revealed to police by an eyewitness.

She claimed that police had launched a massive manhunt to apprehend Okoolu.

In addition, the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sola Lawal, issued a statement urging students to remain calm and allow the police to perform their investigation.
“I can affirm that on Wednesday in Ede town, one Hassan Adedeji, an HND graduate of Banking and Finance and an awaiting NYSC corps member, as well as a commercial motorcyclist, were shot dead.”

“The polytechnic’s administration is very pained by this regrettable tragedy.”

“Let me use this opportunity to urge our students to be calm and law-abiding while we await the conclusion of the police investigation into this heinous conduct.”

“May Almighty God provide the grieving family the strength to endure their loss,” he said.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), students from the polytechnic organised a demonstration and blocked highways in Ede, seeking the arrest of the accused killer.
