The command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed and thorough probe. One suspect is currently in custody.

In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said investigations had commenced into the death of the 22-year-old artiste.

“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement read.

News of Destiny Boy’s death broke on Sunday after disturbing videos showing his body being conveyed to a mortuary surfaced on social media, sparking widespread grief and speculation over the cause of his death. In one of the clips, the singer was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.

Amid the growing speculation, an unidentified associate of the late singer released a video claiming that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.

“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and was known for his Fuji-infused sound. He started out at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star Pasuma.

He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained massive attention on social media.

He also released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, as well as original tracks including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.

Police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
