New Niger Agenda to project state into world-class sub-national govt

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has unveiled his administration’s vision for creating a green and eco-friendly subnational entity in the state.

This was disclosed during an induction retreat organized for the executive council, comprising commissioners, permanent secretaries, and political appointees.

The state government had also launched a New Niger Agenda, a programme designed to elevate the region into a world-class sub-national government.

Retreat for new appointees

Recall that the Governor had recently appointed thirty Commissioners, thirty individuals as Special Advisers, and members to the boards of various agencies and parastatals in the State.

Themed “Panacea for Sustainable Development of Niger State,” the retreat is said to be part of the state’s New Niger Agenda.

Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, representing Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago, emphasized the administration’s commitment to impactful development, job creation, and infrastructure enhancement.

Garba highlighted the induction’s role in shaping Niger State’s future, aligning with the administration’s vision for a green and eco-friendly subnational entity.

Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu, the Secretary to the State Government, urged executive council members to embrace the New Niger Agenda, positioning the state among the top 10 subnational governments in Nigeria.

Professor Muhammed Kuta Yahaya, the Lead Resource Person, emphasized the strategic importance of providing governance and leadership orientation to State Executive Council members, permanent secretaries, and political appointees.

He noted Governor Bago’s vision focusing on good governance and urban renewal development (GUD).

Head of Service Abubakar Salisu recommended reactivating the Strategic Operation Office during the retreat to enhance governance efficiency.

Participants were encouraged to offer diligent recommendations to assist the government in its effective activities.

The retreat, featuring technical and brainstorming sessions, is expected to last from January 7th to January 13th, 2024.
