Plateau govt warns against jungle justice after mob brutally murder man
Mr. Lawandi Datti, the Plateau Commissioner for Youth and Sports, has issued a stern warning to young people against resorting to jungle justice and has advised them to report their concerns to relevant authorities.
Datti made these remarks during his visit to the family of the late Fwinbe Gofwan, who was brutally murdered by a mob in Jos on September 25.
The horrific incident, which resulted in the death of Gofwan, a minibus driver, was perpetrated by a mob for no apparent reason.
Commissioner Datti urged the youth to be responsible and law-abiding citizens, emphasizing the importance of not taking the law into their own hands. He commended the Nigeria Police Force for the swift arrest of one of the suspects.
Datti conveyed his condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire youth community in Plateau. In response, Mr. Thomas Gofwan, the father of the deceased, expressed his gratitude to the commissioner for the condolence visit, finding it to be a source of comfort. He called on the Plateau Government to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face justice.
Elder John Gobak, a former Secretary to the Government of Plateau and a friend of the deceased’s father, described Fwinbe Gofwan’s murder as a devastating incident. He highlighted Gofwan’s qualities as an industrious and compassionate young man who cared about others. Gobak urged the government to apply the full force of the law in dealing with those arrested to serve as a deterrent to others.
