Andre Dickens, the Mayor of Atlanta in the United States of America, on Tuesday, declared November 18 as Davido Day in recognition of the Nigerian-American multiple award-winning singer’s contributions to the city’s entertainment development.
Born David Adeleke, the singer whose uncle is the incumbent governor of Osun State celebrated his 31st birthday on November 21.
The mayor, in a birthday message to the Nigerian star, praised the singer for captivating global audiences and attaining icon status in the music industry while commending his multifaceted roles as a singer, songwriter, producer, business figure, philanthropist, and community advocate.
The mayor’s message read, “On behalf of the City of Atlanta, thank you for your tireless efforts as a renowned singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. Throughout your remarkable career, you’ve amassed an incredible number of accolades and continue to use your platform to give back to communities in the United States and throughout Africa.”
Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He made his music debut as a member of the group KB International. He studied business administration at Oakwood University before dropping out to make beats and record vocal references.
He rose to fame after releasing “Dami Duro”, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo, which was released in 2012, from which six additional singles—”Back When”, “Ekuro”, “Overseas”, “All of You”, “Gbon Gbon” and “Feel Alright”—were taken.
In 2012, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies. Between 2013 and 2015, he released the hit singles “Gobe”, “One of a Kind”, “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Tchelete (Goodlife)”, “Naughty”, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money”.
