The aftermath of the decision of the National Working Committee (PDP) to dissolve the Barr. Iyiola Oyedepo and Prince Sunday Fagbemi led faction of the party in the state is already generating ripples, with most of its stalwarts mauling dumping the party.
Prominent among its stalwarts who have concluded arrangements to join the APC is Alh. Tunde Akanbi Oniyo, the party’s House of Reps. candidate for Ilorin South/East federal Constituency during the 2015 general elections, this medium can authoritatively report.
It would be recalled that this medium had exclusively reported in its last edition, the impending massive movement of prominent PDP members in the state to APC in protest to the decision.
Oniyo who is a grassroots politician was an ally of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Ahmad, until after the 2011 general elections, when both men fell apart.
Speaking with this medium under condition of anonymity, a party source confirmed that plans have been concluded to receive Oniyo back to the Saraki fold during Sallah festivities.
The source ascribed the decision to an attempt by Oniyo to chat a new political trajectory, owing to the irreconcilable differences in the PDP, adding that the stroke that broke the camel’s back was the “ill-conceived” decision of the NWC to dissolve both factions.
He said ” Oniyo has embarked on wide consultation with his followers, political leaders among others, I can assure you that he’ll be received into the APC during Sallah. The APC have been consistently making overtures to him after the last generation election.
“Oniyo came into today (Monday) and meet with his supporters declaring his resolve to retrace his political step, by decamping to the APC” he stressed.
However, all efforts made at confirming the veracity of the report from Oniyo, proved abortive as numerous calls put across to his mobile line were unanswered and text messages unrealised as at the time of filing this report.
