As part of palliative to cushion the effect of the petrol subsidy removal, the Oyo State Government on Friday, approved a car loan for primary school teachers across all zones in the state which takes immediate effect.
The development was contained in a statement by the Coordinating Director, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Jacob Dairo and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the state capital, saying the loan, which is expected to be released in tranches, is to ease teachers’ economic crisis in the state.
Mr Dairo also stated that the loan scheme was approved by the state Gov. Seyi Makinde, who has instructed that there should be no favouritism.
The coordinating director, however advised the beneficiaries to make use of use of the loan for the intended purpose, adding that the facility which is to be granted by financial institutions is to be redeemed within 40 months.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed, also expressed readiness to work with all stakeholders in the education sector.
The commissioner, while giving the assurance when visiting the Directorate of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, on Thursday, said the state government would, in due course, recruit more teachers into the basic education sub-sector, adding that the government would ensure the training of staff for all-round success.
