Oyedepo hails tinubu over approval of army battalion in omu-aran, seeks deployment of advanced military technology

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District, Chief Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Stephen John, Oyedepo described the approval as a timely response to the security challenges facing communities in Kwara South.

According to him, residents of several communities have suffered repeated attacks by armed bandits over the past year, leading to the displacement of many families, while others have been killed or kidnapped. He also paid tribute to traditional rulers and other victims who lost their lives in captivity, describing their deaths as a reminder of the need to strengthen security across the district.

Oyedepo said the establishment of the military battalion would improve intelligence gathering, enhance the response to security threats, and restore confidence among residents to return to their communities and farmlands.

While applauding the Federal Government for the initiative, he urged the government and the military high command to equip the battalion with modern combat platforms and advanced surveillance technology, including drones, night-vision equipment, satellite-supported intelligence systems, armoured personnel carriers, and efficient communication infrastructure.

He noted that tackling banditry and other violent crimes requires intelligence-led and technology-driven operations, adding that investment in modern military technology would improve operational efficiency and provide better protection for security personnel.

The ADC senatorial candidate also called on residents of Kwara South to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through collaboration between the military, local communities, and other stakeholders.

Oyedepo expressed confidence that with sustained commitment from the Federal Government, the Armed Forces, and the people, Kwara South would overcome its security challenges and become a safer environment for residents to live, work, and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
