The sons and daughters of Ile-Ife, invited by the King, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde, Ojaja II were gathered for IFE ICON RECEPTION to honour the son of the soil (Ile-Ife born academic), Prof. Wahab Olasupo EGBEWOLE SAN, who just became the 11th Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
The first class traditional monarch, alongside his charming Queens, overwhelmed with joy, graced the event to celebrate Prof Egbewole, SAN.
The foremost traditional ruler described the new VC as “Osupa” of Ife land.
The king described it as a plus for the historical and ancient town to have produced a number one citizen of a university at this time.
He said the appointment of Egbewole was a manifestation of the Grace of God and meritorious considering the records and accomplishments of the honouree.
He implored everyone at the occasion to train their children, so as to enable reoccurrence of such occasions in the historical and ancient town.
The Arole Oduduwa, prayed for good health, divine protection and a successful administration for the new VC.
He prayed for everyone that graced the event, and their children.
The king of Ile-Ife championed the inauguration of Ife Trust Fund and donated the sum of N10 million and assured of his continuous support and intervention.
The participants at the event were entertained by live performances — carried out by the traditional dancers, life band performance and traditional chants.
The VC, thanked the Almighty Allah who destined him to be in the position. He extended greeting to the king of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Babatunde, Ile Ife Kingdom as a whole and all who graced the event on the invitation of the king.
He vowed that he’ll not disappoint in the performance of his responsibility and appealed to the people to understand and always assist him with prayer.
At the event were Principal Officers and Internal Members of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin.
Others were former and serving diplomats, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Justices of Supreme and High Courts, academics, political and business personalities.
Goodwill messages were expressed by a number of public figures who were at the event and whom were Prof. Sanni, SAN; Mallam Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali, SAN and President, Ife Development Board.
