One killed, seven injured as trailer crashes into APC campaign procession in Osun
A tragic accident on Wednesday claimed the life of one person and left seven others injured after a trailer rammed into an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign procession in Ede, Osun State.
The incident occurred at the Oke Gada area during a campaign walk organised in support of APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Eyewitnesses said the trailer suddenly veered off its lane and crashed into the crowd. The driver reportedly blamed the accident on brake failure.
The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
An APC supporter, identified as Adeshina, confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating that the trailer crashed into participants during the party’s “Endurance Walk for Ambo,” resulting in one death and multiple injuries.
Kola Olabisi, APC’s Director of Media and Information in Osun State, also confirmed the accident. He said the party had deployed a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and was awaiting a detailed report before issuing a comprehensive statement.
Reacting to the incident, Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), expressed condolences to the APC and the families of those affected.
Olajengbesi described the incident as tragic, noting that reports indicated the truck lost its brakes, leading to the fatal crash. He added that several victims remained in critical condition and were receiving treatment in hospital.
He extended sympathies to the bereaved family and all those impacted by the accident.
