Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate past Nigerian President has sent his congratulatory wishes to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on winning the governorship elections in Imo and Kogi states.
Buhari, in a statement on Monday by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, thanked the people of the two states for reaffirming their confidence in the nation’s biggest political party.
The former President also thanked the party leaders and the workers for labouring tirelessly in ensuring the reemergence of Senator Hope Uzodinma for his second term in Imo and Alhaji Usman Ododo as the new governor of Kogi State.
“My best wishes to them for their next tenure,” he added.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that Prof. Johnson Urama, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nnsuka had on Sunday night, declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)Usman Ododo as winner of Saturday’s Governorship election in Kogi State.
Prof. Urama, while announcing at the INEC state collation centre in Lokoja, the state capital, said Ododo polled 446,237 to defeat his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who polled 259,052 votes.
Meanwhile, Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third after scoring 46,362 votes and Hon. Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) got 21,819 votes to come fourth.
He said, “Ahmed Ododo having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” he said.
He also said the number of cancelled votes in the areas where the election did not hold was 16, 247 and could not substantially affect the outcome of the result.
Meanwhile, Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State Governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was on Sunday declared the winner of the Saturday governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Informant247 gathered Uzodinma polled 540,308 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Sam Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 71,503 to come second and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP) who scored 64,081 votes to come third.
Professor Abayomi Fashina, the Returning Officer for the Imo State Governorship Election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, while announcing the result, said Uzodinma scored the highest number of valid votes cast and was returned elected for a second term in office.
Uzodimma won in all the 27 local government areas of the state where the November 11, 2023 governorship poll.
