The former President Olusegun Obasanjo has sent message of advice to the aged not to stay away from the communal society if they want to live long.
The 84-year-old former general (Obasanjo) revealed that his good interaction with the communal society is one of the factors that keeps him alive, and earns him a healthy older age.
The former Nigerian leader made this revelation, Wednesday while welcoming some respected citizens under the umbrella of the Tony Anini Varieties Centres of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the capital of the state.
He said the interaction and relationship with a communal people would assist the aged people to live healthy and long life.
He also sent message of advice to the aged to consume a balanced diet, enjoy a good rest, engage in regular exercise, continuous medical care and social relationship.
“We haven’t been taking proper care of our aged and there are reasons for that. Our culture and tradition is that we should be with our children and take care of our grandchildren, but where are our children today? They have all traveled abroad.
“When things change, we have to change with it. Once our aged are getting older, they should have social clubs that they can relate with,” Obasanjo said.
Dr. Kunmi Idowu, the President, Elders Club of Tony Anini Varieties Center UCH Ibadan, has condemned political actors for not giving proper care to respected citizens.
