As part of his philanthropic gestures, a former gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Alhaji Yakubu Gobir has launched a loan scheme otherwise known as The Gobir Fund designed to economically empower women in Kwara State.
The scheme was floated to bring kwara state adrift poverty index in the federation and to also fund Small and Medium Enterprises in Ilorin.
The foundation was launched at the Gobir Organisation headquarters at 6 Asa Road, Ilorin Kwara State.
The fund, which is earmarked to provide free micro loans to indigenes of the Emirate which cuts across Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin West and Ilorin South Local Government Areas with the aim of providing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with capital for economic growth.
In his remark, Gobir maintained that the empowerment programme will bring relief and succour to every beneficiary.
The Waziri Kasar Hausa, however admonished the beneficiaries that the money must not be diverted for ostentatious aims, urging them to aptly invest the money in yielding businesses.
He further disclosed that the fund is a product of the collaboration between his foundation and Zenith Bank, therefore it should be judiciously invested.
The initiative has already issued interest free loans to over five hundred (500) women and is well endowed to accommodate more going forward.
