The Nigeria Union of Teachers has suspended the Kwara State chairman of the Union, Comrade Toyin Saliu, over allegation of fraud levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The National chairman of the Union Dr Nasir Idris who was represented by the first vice president of the union Kayode Akoshile, made the announcement a press briefing on Wednesday at the teachers house in Ilorin.
Also suspended by the union is the state secretary, comrade Jamiu Idris and the account clerk, comrade Tijani Lateef.
The Deputy chairman of the Union comrade Olú Adewara has been asked to assume office with immediate effect as the acting chairman while the assistant Secretary, comrade Aremu Rasheed Mayaki has been asked to assume the position of acting state secretary.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has exposed how 4 civil servants connived to divert the sum of N31 million meant for the payment of about 400 teachers in Kwara state.
According to the anti-graft body, beneficiaries of the money include the state Chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers, Salihu Idris Toyin; The State Universal Basic Education Board permanent secretary, Bayo Audu Onimago; Director of Finance, SUBEB, Ahmed Husain; the State Cordinator of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Tijani Idris; and the Controller of Finance of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Omole John.
