NPFL 22: Shooting Stars team manager apologises, says draw against Sunshine Stars not acceptable
The Team Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, Oladimeji Lawal has described the team’s 2-2 result against Sunshine Stars of Akure on the NPFL matchday six as unacceptable, The Informant247 reports.
Shooting Stars have managed to secure six points from their last six encounters – a poor run of form that has seen the team seating 17th on the log.
So far, the Edith Agoye led side is yet to convince their teeming fans and the draw against Sunshine Stars had only fueled that impression.
To the chagrin of the fully filled Lekan Adamasingba Stadium football enthusiasts, the Oluyole Warriors had to grind out a draw against the Coach Ayeni tutored side.
While Gafar Olafimihan had sent the home side to the lead in the 22 minutes of the game after scoring from the spot, Anthony Ovoke get the equalizer for the visitors in the 40th minutes to end the first half in a balanced form.
Nwogbana Ebonam threw Ibadan fans to mourning when he scored for the Owena Whales in the 60th minutes and the Oluyole Warriors would have to wait till Wasiu Alalade brought back some succour with the equalizer in the 73rd minutes.
“Good afternoon Honourable house, I want to tender sincere apology here to you our dear supporters. There is no excuse for such lackluster performance of yesterday, it was totally disgraceful, unacceptable and berating”. Oladimeji said.
The Team Manager, who is also a former player of the team stated that the management of the team is not also comfortable with the situation.
“Now, we have to march words with actions. There must be quick turnaround, in terms of results and performance. We are as disgusted as you our teeming supporters”.
He emphasised the need for the team to rise above the situation, noting that the people have the right to question a poor run of form.
“Football is all about results, and when that is not happening, people have right to question our stewardship, hopefully positive turnaround will happen as fast as expected.
While appreciating them for their support and understanding, He assured the stakeholders that the team will turn things around going forward.
“Your time, money, emotions, physical strained, for your darling club cannot go unnoticed. Once again i say we are very sorry, thanks for your commitment and understanding”.
Shooting Stars have relatively enjoyed the best of support from the government in recent times. Among some of the interventions aimed at strengthening the team was the renovation of the Lekan Salami Adamasingba Stadium and the presentation of a new coaster bus to the team.
