Nigerian Army gets 60 armoured vehicles from China, says efforts to tackle insecurity in top gear

The Nigerian Army has commissioned 60 new VP – 1 Type Tracked Armoured Personnel Carriers (Armoured vehicles) from China as part of efforts to boost the war against Boko Haram and bandits in the North East and North West.

The Informant247 reports that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, during the inauguration of the armoured vehicles at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna said that the steps the Army is taking steps to ensure the safety of the country and its citizens.

Represented by the Commandant of Infantry Corps, Major General Victor Ezugwu, the COAS said the equipment will help to neutralise and annihilate the insurgents and return the country to normalcy.

He said, “It is an effort which is in line with the Federal Government’s cardinal objectives of tackling the totality of the security challenges facing our dear country Nigeria.

“These platforms we commission here today is in addition to other equipment brought in for the purpose and this underscores the strategic resolve to ensure that a state of normalcy is achieved across the length and breadth of Nigeria.”

Yahaya also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, adding that this would be achieved in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, partners, and other agencies.
