Nigeria Golden Eaglets are champions of WAFU Zone B tournament
Nigeria Golden Eaglets have emerged the champions of the 2022 U-17 West African Football Union (WAFU B) tournament after a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso on Friday.
Abubakar Abdullah’s brace gave the five-time world champions the edge to lift the title even as the game had ended 1-1 in the first half.
Abdramane Farouz had headed back the Young Stallions to level terms to cancel after Nduka Ugbade boys’ lead – thus making it a balanced first half.
Two minutes after the restart, Abubakar once again capitalised on Burkina Faso goalkeeper terrible mistake to put Nigeria ahead again- a goal that will ultimately decide the final game which held at Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana.
The Nigerian teens clinched the tournament in a grand style with an unbeaten record: A 4-2 win over Ghana in the first game, followed by a 3-1 victory against Togo and another 3-1 triumph over Cote D’Ivoire in the semi-final of the championship.
The two finalists, Nigeria and Burkina Faso have consequently picked the two tickets to represent West African countries at the CAF U17 African Nations Cup in Algeria in March, 2023
