In another move to boost digital entrepreneurship in the country, the federal government of Nigeria has secured an additional $116 million from the French government.
Nigeria’s minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy Bosun Tijani, made this known on his official X handle on Friday.
Tijani, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima in signing the agreement on France’s contribution, said the funds will be delivered to the investment in digital and creative enterprises (I-DICE) programme.
“The I-DICE programme, led by the office of the vice president, will support young Nigerians as they create job opportunities in the digital and creative economy,” he posted.
“The French government, represented by Ms. Catherine Colonna, minister for European and foreign affairs, will be contributing $116 million to the overall funding of $600 million.
“In addition to France’s funding coming through the French Development Agency, the programme will also receive additional funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Islamic Development Bank, and the Bank of Industry (BOI).
“We remain grateful for the support of allies like France in our efforts to deliver on an inclusive and prosperous economy as envisioned by our President.”
The federal government in October announced the launch of a $617.7 million investment through the digital and creative enterprises (i-DICE) programme.
The i-DICE is a federal government programme aimed at promoting investment in information and communications technology (ICT) and creative industries, as part of efforts to build better, inclusive, and sustainable development
