The seven time Ballon D’or winner was once again the inspiration as Argentina defeated Croatia 3-0 on Tuesday’s night to book 2022 FIFA World Cup final ticket.
In what could be regarded as a revenge for the Argentine’s 3-0 loss to Croatia in the 2018 group stage game,Messi proved his worth and class as they thrashed their understanding opponents.
Alway coming to the party, Messi opened the scoreline for the Albicelestes in the 34th minutes after converting a resultant penalty from Dominic Livakovic foul on Julan Alvarez.
Five minutes later, Alvarez would eventually find the back of the net himself when he smuggled his way through an haphazard defense of the opponents and latch on a one on one scenario to double the lead for his side.
That the Croatian held the possession of the game in the first half of the game, their seeming lackluster performance left much question on the lips of many as they remember their spirited performance against Brazil in the quarter final.
Completing the rout was Julain Alvarez who snatched his brace after slotting home a very superb pass from Messi in the 69th minutes to push the Argentines to a more safer side of the game.
Argentina has now qualified for the final of the mundial for their fifth time and will be hoping for a shot at history when they face the winner between Morroco and France in the final scheduled to hold on December 18.
It’s the closest again Messi have come to the World Cup trophy since losing the 2014 final to Germany. With five goals to his credit already which includes four penalties, the PSG star would be looking forward to his crowning moment when he plays in the final on Sunday hoping to complement his highly successful career with the only title missing in his cabinet – the mundial.
