A man, Mudassir Lawal, was on Thursday sentenced to to six months imprisonment for swindling a business person of N452,000.
The 25-year-old man was sentenced by an Area Court in Jos on Thursday, to six months imprisonment for swindling a business person of N452,000.
Malam Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan, the panel of two magistrates who made the pronouncement sentenced the convict after pleading guilty to deceit and criminal breach of trust.
The convict was also given an option of N 10,000 fine by the judges.
They also directed that the convict make the payment of N452, 000 as compensation to the complainant.
Insp Monday Dabit, the Prosecution Counsel, earlier informed the court that the matter was brought to the awareness of the law enforcement agency at the ‘A’ division Police station by Mr Umar Zakari on April 4.
He added that convict persuaded the complainant to grant him a loan of N 452,000 for a business with the agreement that he would refund the money back in two weeks.
The prosecutor further informed the court that during the investigation of the police, the convict admitted to have diverted the amount to his personal use.
He said the offence was in contravention of the provisions of sections 297 and 307 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
