Man appears in court for allegedly stealing 128 litters of fuel
A 25-year-old Man Wasiu Lawal, on Monday appeared in a Kado Grade I Area Court, Abuja over alleged theft of 128 litters of fuel.
Lawal who resides in Karmo, Abuja, was charged by the police with theft.
Mr Stanley Nwafoaku, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, alleged that on September 10, around 10 a.m, the complainant, Oyoyo Joseph residing Behind Arab Construction Abuja, brought the awareness of the matter to Utako Police Station, Abuja.
Nwafoaku alleged that on August 16, the defendant with intents of crimes decided to illegally take away 128 litters of fuel at his house worth N42, 000 and ran to an unknown place.
He further revealed to the court that the defendant was apprehended by the Police at Life Camp, Abuja, explaining that during the investigation of the police investigation, Lawal admitted to committing the crime.
The counsel also revealed that all efforts of the police to regain the product or money proved abortive, saying the offence was in contravention of section 288 of the penal code law.
When the matter was read to the defendant he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Muhammed Wakili who presided over the matter granted the defendant the bail in the sum of N50, 000 plus one surety in like sum.
Wakili directed that the surety must make provision for recent passport photograph, a BVN print out and an authentic identification card, which must be subjected to verification of the court registrar.
The Judge has adjourned the case until January 12, 2023 for hearing.
