Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have expressed deep concern over the rising cases of ritual killings and rape activities in the state.
The lawmakers stated that the case which is fast becoming a daily occurrence, if not checked by the government will continue to aid the breakdown of law and order adding that the sacredness of human life will become jeopardized.
Reacting to the motion on the “need to eradicate ritual related killings and activities in Kwara State” raised by Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin on Tuesday, the Assembly urged the state government to ensure that operatives of the Community Policing Initiatives are deployed for intelligence gathering in their various communities to assist the mainstream security agencies to apprehend perpetrators of rape and ritual related activities.
It also urged the state government to direct the Ministry of Justice to ensure that culprits are prosecuted under the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealings in Human parts Law, 2018 and Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, 2020.
They thereafter called on the executive to liaise with the NDLEA towards intensifying its activities in the State with a view to curbing sales and consumption of illicit drugs.
