KWARTMA warns against ‘one-way’ driving as Okolowo autocrash claims lives

Suleiman Abdullahu Oba, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), has urgently called on motorists to cease the reckless practice of driving against traffic, known as “one way.”

This warning comes in the wake of a tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday, involving an empty petrol tanker and a tipper truck loaded with sand.

It was gathered that both vehicles were found driving against traffic when they collided, leading to loss of lives and significant damage to property.

Oba made his remarks during a visit to the crash site along the Oko-olowo expressway on Wednesday, 14th May, 2025.

“The loss of lives in this accident is heartbreaking,” he stated. “Driving against traffic not only puts the driver at risk but endangers everyone on the road. We must all adhere to traffic rules for the safety of ourselves and others.”

The CEO also praised the quick response of the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who helped transport injured victims to local hospitals. In addition, KWARTMA took immediate action to clear the wreckage from the road to prevent further accidents.

Oba expressed sympathy for the families affected by the accident and emphasized the importance of road safety. “We must work together to promote safe driving practices. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives, and I pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he concluded.
