KWARTMA announces traffic changes as preparatory work begins on Oko-Olowo flyover

…closes Oloje access, provides temporary routes, warns motorists

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has announced traffic adjustments around Oko-Olowo Junction in Ilorin following the commencement of preparatory work for the construction of the Oko-Olowo Flyover.

The authority said an entrance and exit opening connecting the Oloje axis has been cordoned off as part of the initial activities, with temporary alternative routes provided to ease movement and minimise congestion.

According to the site engineer, the initial phase of the project will involve soil sampling, column-related investigations and other technical assessments ahead of full construction work.

KWARTMA said it would work with relevant stakeholders to manage traffic throughout the construction period, adding that permanent alternative routes and additional diversion measures would be communicated to the public once finalised.

The authority advised motorists and commuters to exercise caution around the corridor, reduce their speed and comply with traffic signs and directives from traffic management personnel.

Motorists were also warned against indiscriminate parking along the route, which KWARTMA said could increase the risk of road crashes and cause unnecessary delays.

The authority appealed to members of the public to cooperate with traffic officials and other stakeholders as work on the flyover progresses.
